HINGHAM – Not many have solved Franklin’s defense this season.

But yesterday, top-ranked Notre Dame Academy of Hingham cracked the code.

Led by four goals from Madison Ahern, the Cougars had eight different goal-scorers to erupt offensively and take down the No. 2 Panthers, 14-4.

“You just need a lot of threats,” said NDA coach Meredith Frank, as the Cougars scored more goals than Franklin had allowed in the past four games combined. “On any given day, I need a lot of people to step up and feel confident enough that they can execute.”

Franklin (8-1) played from behind for the duration of the contest, but got a spark early in the second half after back-to-back goals from Kendall Reardon and Erin Walsh cut into the deficit, 6-3.

NDA (5-2) answered in a big way, though, closing the second half on an 8-1 run to win going away.

The tear started with Julia Green and Bridget Simmons scoring 25 seconds apart followed by Ahern finding the back of the net 16 seconds after Simmons’ tally to regain control, 9-3, with 14:17 remaining. Green, Simmons and Ahern each added one more goal later in the half to create even more separation.

“(Franklin) made a good run and came back at us,” Frank said. “We were able to withhold them and capitalize on some of our possessions.”

Camerin Rawson (two goals, three assists) got the Cougars off to a fast start by facilitating the offense with her play-making ability. Rawson set up three goals in the first half, including one worthy of a highlight-reel, and tallied one herself as NDA scored six unanswered goals to begin the game.

“Every game we go into with a mentality to make a statement,” Rawson said. “It doesn’t matter if you’re a freshman or a senior, we’re all on the field and we’re all ready to play.”
