All season long, St. John’s Prep’s calling card has been uts deep lineup and on Monday night it sent them to their third straight Super Eight final.

Andrew Selima belted a three-run home run and an RBI double in part of a nine-run showing as St. John’s Prep defeated BC High, 9-7, in the Super Eight semifinals at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton. The win advances St. John’s Prep (17-7) to their third straight Super Eight final where they will try to avenge two consecutive losses.

St. John’s Prep led 9-5 heading into the top of the ninth inning, but a two run double off the bat of BC High pinch hitter Seamus Donovan cut the deficit to 9-7. Prep closer Zach Begin, however, relaxed and got a strike out for the final out of the game to seal the win.

St. John's coach Dan Letarte said he hopes his team can finally break through

“We’re getting sick of getting the runners up trophy,” said Letarte. “BC High is a great team, they came in hot, and its just great to get a win over a great program.”

The Prep trailed BC High 3-0 entering in the bottom of the fourth, but used patience at the plate to get ahead. Three consecutive walks loaded the bases to begin the frame and an Alex Lane two-run single brought the Prep back within 3-2. Two consecutive wild pitches around a walk followed and gave St. John’s a 4-3 advantage.

One inning later the Prep tacked on, as Selima hit a line drive three run home run to right centerfield to put the Prep on top 7-3.

Later in the inning Andrew Dembowski added an RBI single to give St. John’s a comfortable 8-3 lead.
