Richard Nixon was in office when Barry Greener accepted an offer to join John Lee's coaching staff at Walpole in 1972.
Greener spent 35 of those 37 years as either an offensive or defensive coordinator before assuming the head coaching ranks in 2009. The longtime staple of the Rebel football program announced that he will step down following his team's Thanksgiving Day game against Weymouth.
In nine years at the helm, Greener posted a 73-27 record and won the Bay State Herget title three times. Greener's current team is 3-7, the only losing season in his tenure.
