With a win solidifying a spot in the state tournament, BC High turned to its star.

On Thursday night, Travis Evee went for 24 points as the Eagles defeated Hanover, 59-44, in front of a packed house at Hanover High School.

Joining Evee in the Eagles (10-5) offensive attack was Mike Vasil (15 points, 8 rebounds) while Spencer Riley added 12 rebounds.

“Clinching a spot in the tournament definitely takes the pressure off,” said Evee. “We knew what was at stake coming into this game and we made sure we were ready to go start to finish.”

Defensively, meanwhile, the Eagles held Hanover (14-3) to 30-percent shooting and 24-percenet from three-point land.

BC High held a 32-24 lead at the half, but a basket by Evee and a dump off from the Eagles’ senior point guard to Riley for a layup increased the BC High lead up to 11.

Aaron Bosie tried to keep the Indians within striking distance as he followed up a runner in the lane with a step back triple.

Eagles’ forward Troy Salmans responded with a jumper and Evee splashed a trey of his own to give the Eagles a 41-29 advantage.

Evee then put the game firmly out of reach driving to the hoop for two, and then dishing to Vasil for a fall-away jumper as the buzzer sounded to give BC High a 49-33 lead heading into the fourth.

“The second half I got to see a couple shots for me,” said Evee. “My teammates were knocking down shots and that allowed me to keep attacking (Hanover’s) defense.”

In the opening half the Eagles got off to a fast start.

Eight early points from Vasil, including a transition trey, helped put BC High up 21-11 early in the second quarter.

Hanover received a boost from Dan Hamza (11 points) as he finished at the rim and JP Landry connected on a four-point play to trim the deficit to 21-17.

The Eagles, however, used the three-ball to gain some separation before the half as Jamil Davis, Matt Thompson, and Vasil knocked down three-straight treys to help BC High take a 32-24 lead at the intermission.
