Kevin Flaherty caught two touchdown passes to lead Beverly (1-0) to a 24-0 nonleague win over Wakefield. It was the first win for new Panther coach Andrew Morency, who came over from Hamilton-Wenham in the offseason.
Brandon Winn ran for 155 yards and two touchdowns, while Jay Connolly completed 6-of-7 passes for 103 yards and two scores as Tewksbury (1-0) cruised to a 43-21 win over Malden Catholic.
Newton North’s (1-0) defense forced five Waltham turnovers to help preserve a 9-7 victory.
Deon Smith ran for three scores and passed for a fourth as Watertown (1-0) cruised to a 48-7 win over Arlington Catholic. ... Christopher David ran for 160 yards and a touchdown as Somerville (1-0) held off late-charging Greater Lawrence, 27-26.
Sal Frelick threw four touchdowns and ran for two more as Lexington (1-0) came away with a 49-23 win over Newton South.
Dan Byers ran for 208 yards to power St. John’s Shrewsbury (1-0) to a 30-28 win over Catholic Memorial.
Cody Sughrue tossed four touchdowns, two of which were hauled in by Sean Hines, as Shawsheen Tech (1-0) defeated Blue Hills (0-1), 34-6, in non-league play.
Alec Ragusa rushed for the lone touchdown and finished with nine tackles as Canton (1-0) shutout Pentucket, 6-0. ... Mark Clagg completed 14-of-19 passes for 213 yards and three touchdowns as Foxboro (1-0) rallied from an early 16-0 deficit to beat Hingham, 27-16.
Anthony Whitley finished with a pair of rushing touchdowns and had two touchdowns on special teams to lift Taconic (1-0) past Sandwich, 42-13. ... Abraham Toe and Calvin Johnson each rushed for a pair of touchdowns as St. Mary’s (1-0) did all its scoring in the first half en route to a 42-6 victory over Dorchester. ... Shawn Washington and Quentin Bethea each returned interceptions for touchdowns as Latin Academy (1-0) defeated St. Clement, 38-6. Washington also teamed up with Josh Lewis to rush for 180 yards.
