It did not start out as much, but Melrose's fantastic finish against Stoneham earned the title Game of the Week. Trailing 14-0 with less than seven minutes remaining, the Red Raiders leaned on their All-Scholastic running back Mike Pedrini (16 carries for 120 yards) and he delivered the goods. His 51-yard TD run cut the deficit in half, then his 6-yard scoring run with 2:53 made it 14-13. Rather than play for a tie, Melrose went for the win and Pedrini crossed the plane for the two-point conversion.
The Upset of the Week took place in the Cape Ann League. Winless Amesbury took on a surging 3-2 Hamilton-Wenham squad and came away with a 24-21 victory. Zach Prentiss led a strong ground attack as he rushed for 95 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
HAPPY HOMECOMING: Lowell native Bret Edwards returned to Cawley Stadium as a member of the Central Catholic football and the junior quarterback turned in one of his better efforts of the season. Edwards completed 14-of-19 passes for 216 yards and two touchdowns in a 49-13 win over Lowell.
DEFENSIVE DYNAMO: Travis Demby stepped up big for Nantucket in its 31-26 victory over previously unbeaten Mashpee. Demby picked off two passes, returning one for score, while registered seven tackles, including a fumble recovery.
ANCHORS ARRIVE LATE: Held scoreless for most of the game, St. Clement stepped up at the right time down the stretch. Mike Thompson threw a 22-yard TD pass to Jesus Rivera in the fourth quarter, then the two hooked up on the game-winning, two-point conversion to give St. Clement an 8-7 win over Marian/Keefe Tech.
TRIPLE THREATS: Braintree rolled to an easy win over Brookline thanks to the play of three of its standouts. Drew Caruso ran for 105 yards and scored three touchdowns for the fourth time this year. Lineman Greg Wood had seven tackles and two sacks, while Zach Harris added 112 rushing yards and a touchdown on three carries.
NOBLE EFFORT: Jason Medeiros ran for 201 yards and three touchdowns and also added a two-point conversion run to lead Noble & Greenough to a 28-0 victory over Rivers.
BROTHERS IN ARMS: The Landry Brothers were immense in guiding Bishop Stang to a 41-7 win over Coyle-Cassidy. Nick Landry ran for 85 yards and three touchdowns, while catching two passes for 56 yards and a score. Will Landy threw for 70 yards and a TD, while rushing for 64 yards and another score.
SIXTH SENSE: Bedford running back Jake Eliason is quietly putting together one of the best season in the Dual County League. Eliason put together another monster effort as he rushed for 256 yards and six touchdowns in a 48-26 win over Medford.
REVERSAL OF FORTUNES: A year ago, Old Rochester started the season 0-5 under head coach Justin Kogler. Fast forward to day where the Bulldogs are 6-0 and the champions of the South Coast Conference Large by virtue of a 34-19 win over Apponequet. Harry Smith ran for 203 yards and three touchdowns in the win.
STREAK BUSTERS: Taunton snapped an 18-game streak in Hockomock League play with a 25-7 triumph over Oliver Ames. Noah Leonard threw a pair of touchdown passes for the Tigers, who improved to 2-4 on the season.
